When Is the Best Time for Newborn Photos? (It Might Surprise You!)
your newborn session can happen at any age
As a Eugene newborn photographer, one of the most common questions I’m asked is: “When should we schedule our newborn session?” Many photographers limit newborn photos to the first 10–14 days of life because that’s when babies are sleepiest and easiest to mold into very posed positions.
But my approach is much more natural.
I do gently guide and “pose” babies, but never in ways that feel uncomfortable or forced. This allows us to work with your baby’s natural rhythms rather than trying to fit everything into a very narrow window. And because of that, your newborn session can happen at any age—and still result in a stunning, meaningful gallery.
Traditional Two-Week Newborn Photos
Babies in those early days tend to be sleepier and curl up naturally, which works beautifully for parents who love that delicate, fresh-from-the-hospital look. These sessions feel soft, peaceful, and classic.
I absolutely love photographing this stage, and my newborn photography studio in Eugene is designed to keep your baby cozy, warm, and comfortable throughout the process.

The Beautiful Benefits of Waiting a Little Longer
If you decide to wait a few weeks—or even a couple of months—before booking your session, your gallery will still be full of incredible moments. In fact, waiting often brings some unexpected perks:
A more settled and confident rhythm for you as parents
More smiles
Soft rolls and extra squish
Even, flawless skin
Plump lips and beautiful little features
Longer stretches of alert time
My Philosophy: Every Stage Is Worth Remembering
As an Eugene photographer specializing in newborn and family imagery, I believe that your baby is perfect in every season. Whether you prefer the early-day stillness or the lively expressions that come with waiting a bit, your session will reflect the stage you’re in—with honesty, intention, and a natural aesthetic.
There’s no such thing as being “too late” for newborn photos.
There is only the time that feels right for you.
Whenever you’re ready, my newborn photography studio in Eugene is here to welcome you—whether you’re just settling in at home with your days-old newborn or feeling more grounded after a few weeks of adjusting to parenthood.
Older newborns offer a completely different kind of beauty—equally worthy of documenting.
